Here it is Labor Day and the stores are nearly empty of summer goods. Halloween, Thanksgiving and even Christmas items are filling up the shelves. All this makes December 12th just that much closer. Retirement. The closer it gets the more we explore the meaning of that word. Our first questions centered around economics. Looking at the years, the percentages, the bills. Asking over and over, can we afford to take a 30% cut in our income? The honest answer is no, probably not, but we aren’t likely to be better prepared to do so in another year or even five years. Like most of this nation, we live at the edge of our means. From paycheck to paycheck, with not much of a cushion. Retirement for us will mean living a little less extravagantly.
